We acknowledge these are very difficult times. We sincerely hope that you are healthy, will remain healthy, or will soon recover. But this message is NOT about the coronavirus.
This is your periodic KVFSC newsletter with information pertaining to figure skating at the Kent Valley Ice Center. Please sign up to our mailing list to receive future updates!
The letter is from the board members of Kent Valley Figure Skating Club. Our purpose is support and promote the sport of figure skating at our rink, organize public events and keep you in the loop of the happenings.
Thanks to your votes, a new board was formed at the end of February, 2020. We are brave volunteers who believe Kent figure skating can and should be taken to another level and we'd like to help. Based on our expertise, we appointed Mayumi as the president, Teresa as the Treasurer, Monica as the membership and test chair, Naris as the IT expert, Irena as a secretary and Chloe as a member at large.
Being new to our roles, we are continuing to learn about our new positions and duties, and slowly starting to get into action to help facilitate expected activities (some test sessions and events are coming up), ensure accurate and needed information is provided everywhere, plan the budget and events for the year, and fix our tax-exempt status.
Club Website
The club web-site has received a few updates and will continue to evolve to better serve our audience. Enjoy the new Ice Schedule page that conveniently combines both freestyle and public session schedules in one view.
Events
In May, we’ll hold Informational Meetings to coordinate with our annual Membership drive and answer public’s questions (likely during LTS on Saturdays). We would like to draw people in to deepen their skating study and/or become actively involved with the club. There will likely be a club sponsored free skating session sometime in June. We will work with the Learn to Skate coaches to hopefully organize a summer skating exhibition sometime in late July or August – an event where everyone is proud to show their own accomplishments no matter at what level.
Test Sessions
The club plans to have a test session in late March or early April.
New Coaches – Hiroe and Janusz ([Ya-noo-sh])
We are fortunate to welcome two new and accomplished coaches to the club – Hiroe Kakisawa and Janusz McKinnon. They recently moved to the area from Utah. Check out coach profiles on the coaches page.
Temporary Rink Closure
In preparation to construct the second sheet of ice, the rink is scheduled to be closed for some electrical work for two weeks starting April 27.
We may experience other mandated changes, please check the Ice Schedule for any changes.
SafeSport Training
To help US Figure Skating ensure that we provide a safe environment for our members, all volunteers must complete SafeSport training. Visit this page to get started. You will need to log in with your adult member number, not your skater's number.
